Description:
1984 witnessed the arrival of many new Speccy heros and villans; Monty Mole was of course one of the former. Wanted Monty Mole is a platform game and when it was released it got more than its share of exposure in the British press and even television. This was due to the portrayal of the then Miners' Union Leader: Arthur Scargill.

The cover story being that our friend monty is searching for coal for the onset of winter in a Yorkshire coal mine and emerging in Arthur's Castle to do battle with killer aerosols, falling debris, apparitions, other nasties and of course the infamous 'crushers'; huge plungers than Monty must run beneath in order to pass or collect coal - the bite being that the crushers are set to random, so difficult to time at best!

Object:

Collect the bucket at the beginning of the game (otherwise you won't get far in the game) and collect all the pieces of coal that is lying about each of the caverns.

Not all object will result in Monty's demise. Some items are used to help clear the path ahead, or open barriers to the next room.

Criticism:
When Monty Mole was first published it was inevitably given the 'comparison treatment' to Manic Miner & also JSW.

Needless to say, many thought that Monty was just as good in gameplay and graphics- if not better. It's difficult -if not impossible- to say which is the better game

Similar Games:

- Alien Highway

without a full analysis of each game including all aspects of this genre and even then the opinion will be greatly divided!

However, ZXSpeccy would hazard the opinion that Monty is on an equal par with Manic Miner and perhaps 'almost' as good as JSW :)
