Description:
Chuckie Egg was first published on the speccy in 1985 by A'nF Software. Essentially a platform game, you guide Chuckie around several screens picking up the carelessly discarded eggs throughout the game, taking care to avoid the weird and blue duck-swan hybrid nasties.

The simplicity belies its wonderful addictiveness. I played Chuckie Egg until the small hours of many, many mornings - boy did this kill me getting up for school those mornings! The quirky sounds are well delivered and add to the game experience overall. Jumping and catching onto ladders and timing your bounces of the edge of the screen make for excellent gameplay- the definable keys being a big plus. For these reasons, Chuckie Egg has earned a 5 star rating on the zxspeccy hall of fame!

Object:
Collect all the eggs in each screen to complete the level and move onto the next platform. After the first screen sets are complete, you start over again, only this time the duck in the cage is released and flaps after you. Once this set has then been completed, both the duck and the smaller ducks appear, and so on.

Criticism:
Let's face it - It's tough to say a bad word against our beak-bound top-hatted adventurer. Chuckie Egg sound is good and gameplay is excellent. Graphics are minimal but colour is well used and the screens well designed. One of my favourite platforms during the eighties so this review may be slightly prejudiced ;)

That said, after an hour or so, its relatively easy to accumulate a hoard of extra lives every 10,000 points. Slowly though, the action gets faster and birds start flying after you've completed several rounds of the total available levels.

Sound & Graphics:
A nice touch is that many of the sounds continue to run in the background and this does not affect the gameplay.

The graphics are limited though, but those that are evident are nicely animated. Watch out for later stages where the bird in the cage takes flight and comes after you.
